The Security Officer protects life and property of all persons on the NCH Healthcare System premises and patrols hospital property and ground to prevent fire, theft and vandalism. Secures, unlocks and protects buildings and property to insure facility physical security, asset protection, loss prevention and crime prevention. Prepares comprehensive written reports and documents results of security activity. Responds to security needs of hospital personnel and the customer service needs of patients and visitors.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES – Other duties may be assigned.
Provides a visible deterrence to crime and prohibited activities by proactive patrol of Hospital buildings and grounds.
Responds quickly and effectively to emergency and non-emergency situations.
Ensures only authorized persons are admitted onto Hospital premises and enforces identification policy for employees, contractors and vendors. Inspects outgoing parcels, as necessary, to prevent theft of Hospital property.
Maintains proficiency with camera equipment and Security Systems. Uses proper techniques for the purpose of incident/accident scene documentation. Investigates all incidents of unusual circumstances reported by Hospital personnel, visitors, physicians or patients and documents findings.
Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing. Prepares accurate, clear and concise reports, and documents investigative steps and results.
Serves as a member of the fire control team and responds to code reds.
Monitors employees for compliance with all NCH standards of Excellence and Hospital Policies and Procedures as described in the Administrative Policy Manual and Security Department Manual.
Perform all responsibilities as assigned and uses sound judgment in completing tasks.
As needed, provides employees with photographic identification badges with appropriate access privileges. May staff the badging office during schedules hours or as needed based on employee needs.
Ensures that appearance and personal conduct are professional at all times. Wears appropriate uniform for job functions. Wears identification while on duty.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or GED required
1 year of experience in security or law enforcement preferred
Must have valid Florida driver's license and successfully pass a DMV check
Basic Security Certification from IAHSS (6 month to obtain from start date)
