Job Description:




Responsible for administration of anesthesia and clinical instruction of student registered nurse anesthetists (SRNAs).

Responsibilities:




Induction of anesthesia.




Maintains anesthesia at the required levels.




Support life functions during the administration of anesthesia.




Recognize and take appropriate action to abnormal patient responses.




Provide professional observation resuscitative care as needed.




Provide clinical instruction to student nurse anesthetists.  Participate in the overall instruction of SRNAs.




Serve as resource personnel for other areas within the hospital.




Requirements:

Education: Graduate of an accredited Nurse Anesthesia program.  Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

Number and Type of Employees Supervised: Assists with clinical instruction of student registered nurse anesthetists (SRNA's).


Licensure, Registry or Certification Required: Official recognition as an APRN in SC and certification with the NBCRNA is required. Mandatory recertification with completion of continuing education through NBCRNA. Current BLS (Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers) required prior to start date directly through the American Red Cross, the American Heart Association, or the military. (To register: Blended Learning or In Person BLS through the American Red Cross; or Classroom or Skills Session BLS through the American Heart Association. Certification must include an in-person skills session.


Special Training: Must possess skills necessary to treat patients of all ages to include infants, pediatric, adolsecent, adult, and geriatric patients.  AANA continuing education programs acquiring 40 continuing education units every two years.
