Job Description

This position has access to and knowledge of extremely sensitive, private and confidential materials. Ability to maintain the highest standard is required with zero tolerance.


All the primary duties within this document will be performed according to established policies, procedures and guidelines within the department and the Medical Center.


Reports to the Nurse Manager and RN Coordinators and works under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse.  Performs Nurse Aide I skills as approved by the North Carolina Board of Nursing and NHRMC policy. Responsible for completing a variety of department specific tasks to assist with optimal department safety and functioning.  Actively participates in all aspects of the rehabilitation process as a member of the interdisciplinary team. Supports LEAN activities and adapts to changing environment to meet patient and department needs.  Advocates for NHRMC, Rehabilitation Services, patients, and coworkers.

  • Performs direct and indirect patient care activities to meet the daily personal needs of the patient and to support the team as part of the 24/7 rehabilitation process. Requires minimal oversight to complete responsibilities in timely and thorough manner.
  • Assists in the preparation, transfer, and/or transport of patients, equipment, and supplies. 
  • Collects and accurately records or reports required clinical information as directed by the RN, including Functional Independence Measure (FIM) notations and other objective measures, in the medical record.
  • Adheres to NHRMC policies/procedures and standards established by CMS, Joint Commission, CARF, and/or other regulatory agencies.
  • Demonstrates accountability by participating in education, training, LEAN and quality improvement efforts, councils/workgroups, and/or advocacy efforts. 
  • May perform waived point of care testing per CLIA guidelines.
  • Performs other related duties as required.


  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.  Completion of a Nurse Aide I course. 
  • Licensure / Certifications: Maintain current status on the Nurse Aide I registry.  BLS certification.
  • Experience: None required.  One year experience preferred.
