Job Description



Serves as a physician extender to increase patient throughput and overall RVU production. Assists assigned Orthopedic Surgeon in both hospital and clinic settings. Performs administrative duties and follow up patient care during non-clinic hours. Aids in fulfilling contractual agreements with area high schools through weekly visits to evaluate athletic injuries, and covering high school athletic events. Promotes excellent relationships between physicians and area high schools in all endeavors.





  • Master's degree in kinesiology, physical therapy, or related field required.
  • Experience:
  • Athletic Training Residency
  • Medical Billing (Professional)
  • Electronic Medical Record/Clinical Documentation   
  • OR First Assist
  • Licensure/Certification:
  • Current State of Texas Athletic Trainer license.
  • Current BLS certification.         
  • Required Skills:
  • Demonstrated ability to perform skills required to extend the services of the assigned provider in a clinical setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently rehab patients and athletes.
  • Desire to work with a comprehensive healthcare delivery team.
  • Communication Skills:
  • Able to read, write and speak English.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in the use of relevant Medical Terminology.


    Work is medium demand. Lifting 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.  Medium strength is required to position patients for examination.  May assist patients as needed, helping them on and off the exam table and/or bed.  Hearing to communicate with patients.  Near-visual acuity to read gauges and dials on equipment.  Color vision for perceiving changes in condition.  Works inside hospital and clinic settings, schools, and athletic facilities (inside and outside).

  • Works Outstanding Physician Task Buckets in EHR Database
  • Scheduling Surgical Visits, Diagnostic Tests, and Facilitates Referrals
  • Accurately Assigns Diagnosis Codes
  • Accurate Assignment of Procedure Codes and Modifiers
  • Provides Clinical Justification to Payers as Required in Advance of Procedures; Correctly Documents Outcome in EHR.

  • Provides Coverage for a Minimum of 1 Event Per Week
  • Weekly School Visits to Perform Injury Evaluations and Rehabilitation of Athletes based on Advisory Board of Athletic Trainers and the Texas Occupations Code for Health Professions, and Scope of Practice.
  • Collaborate with Physical Therapist in Center for Rehabilitation as Needed to Prepare Athletes for Return to Play
