Position Summary:

Surgical Technologists are Allied Health Professionals, who are an integral part of the team of medical practitioners providing surgical care to patients. Surgical technologists work under the supervision of a surgeon and RN to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. Surgical Technologists possess expertise in the theory and applications of sterile and aseptic technique and combine the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a physician's performance of invasive and therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. The Surgical Technologist must be able to plan and provide healthcare interventions that take into consideration age specific needs for patients in the stages; infant to toddler, young children, older children, adolescence, early, middle and late adulthood.



High School Diploma or equivalent. Knowledge of surgical procedures, techniques, instruments, equipment and supplies. Minimum of 6 months recent operating room experience or completion of formal training program.



Graduate of a formal Surgical Technologist training course or equivalent on the job training. Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS), Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) preferred.
