Technical skills: Demonstrates knowledge of surgical instrumentation/equipment and techniques for manual cleaning and disinfection. Demonstrates a clear understanding of all sterilization control measures and proper documentation. Maintains work area and equipment in condition required by standards. Checks autoclave charts for accurate time and temperature recordings. Accurately logs cycles and the contents of each. Verifies that chemical indicators are included in every instrument set and package. Demonstrates proper and safe operation of all sterilizers, washers, etc. Demonstrates knowledge of techniques for properly wrapping and packaging of all surgical instruments/equipment. Demonstrates the ability to use proper personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to blood borne pathogens. Ensures that all instruments are washed in an open position, inspected for proper alignment, sharpness, and cleanliness before final packaging. Ensures that all instrument sets are correctly counted according to appropriate count sheet and labeled correctly and has staff initials on count sheet.
Communication: Maintains open communication using appropriate chain of command. Presents a neat appearance and displays GVMH identification badge. Participates in staff meetings. Reports to work on time and as scheduled. Demonstrates dependability/flexibility in meeting staffing needs. Continuously demonstrates a positive attitude with all GVMH staff.
Critical Thinking: Anticipates the needs of all GVMH departments when surgical instruments and equipment is going to be needed and is processed in a safe and efficient manner.
Organizational skills: Must maintain accurate records, deliver instruments and supplies to appropriate departments in a timely manner.
This position will require "off shift, weekend, and holiday on call duties as needed".
