Job Description


SUMMARY OF THE JOB
The Licensed Mental Health Clinician delivers quality individual, family and group counseling services to patients and their families to determine short-term or long-term treatment needs and meet the patient’s social, emotional and psychological needs.  Consistently performs in a manner that exemplifies Deaconess standards for customer relations and patient satisfaction.
 
 
Job Duties include the following, other duties may be assigned.
  1. Performs diagnostic intake evaluations, which may include the skilled use of a variety of culturally sensitive mental health assessment tools.
  2. Conducts individual, family and group counseling services which incorporate evidence-based treatment modalities.
  3. Develops, implements and conducts psychoeducational programming.
  4. As needed, performs crisis de-escalation and intervention services in collaboration with appropriate community resources.
  5. Monitors patient progress and updates/modifies treatment plan or refers patient as appropriate.
  6. Independently assesses and evaluates a wide variety of psychiatric conditions and DSM-V diagnoses commonly found in the patient population served.
  7. Demonstrates sound clinical judgment in diagnosis and treatment planning and the application of culturally sensitive treatment modalities to diverse patients.
  8. Adheres to and demonstrates ethically sound clinical decision making in accordance with established mental health ethics codes (e.g., APA, ACA, etc.) and practices within the boundaries of their competence.
  9. Ability to maintain therapeutic posture with patients who are in various stages of emotional stability; ability to maintain control in volatile or hostile situations.
  10. Collaborates with internal and external sources in providing clinical treatment.
  11. Completes thorough and concise documentation of patient encounters within 24 hours of appointment.
  12. Utilizes the Electronic Medical Record for documentation of patient encounters; enters charges accurately and timely.
  13. Represent DFMR in internal and external networking and community activities to maintain and grow patient referral base and promote Residency.
  14. Maintains knowledge of and professional relationships with other mental health care providers and their services.
  15. Maintains availability for patients with urgent needs and/or arranges for coverage by an alternate provider in the Deaconess Family Medicine Residency.
  16. Committed to growth and development of professional skills through participation in continuing education.                                        
 
Other Functions:
  1. Assist in the training of Family Medicine physicians and medical students as requested.
  2. Works as a productive member of an interdisciplinary team with a high degree of professionalism.
  3. Act as liaison with other departments within the Deaconess system.
  4. Attend staff meetings.
  5. Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience 
 
Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, Mental Health Counseling or related human service field. License-eligible doctoral level ABD in related fields also considered.  

 
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Current license in good standing issued by the Indiana Behavioral Health and Human Services Licensing Board as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT).
