Job Description

MAIN FUNCTION:  Leads worship services (including preaching) and engages in pastoral visitation, among other assigned duties.


Preaches and leads worship services as assigned.  On the various campuses these include:

At Westminster Place

Three Sunday morning health care services

Wednesday Hymns & Devotions services

At The Moorings of Arlington Heights: 

Sunday evening vesper services

Two Wednesday services in Health Center

Visits residents on assigned floors in health care center; visits assisted living and independent residents, as assigned

Participates in Monday morning seminar classes at Westminster Place (or other assigned location) and fulfills all requirements, including offering devotions on a rotating schedule and preparing and presenting a verbatim

 Meets weekly with assigned chaplain supervisor for field education site supervision

 Meets regularly with Lay Committee mentor(s) (approximately monthly)

 Participates in assigned special vesper services at Westminster Place such as the Welcoming Service, Hanging of the Greens, and Recognition Sunday  

Assists with special worship services as assigned; may include services for Thanksgiving, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, etc.

Offers opening devotions at a meeting of The Woman’s Board of Presbyterian Homes

Attends various meetings as selected or assigned; may include Ethics Committee meetings and care plan conferences 

Performs other site-specific duties as assigned, including: 

At Westminster Place

Assists with transporting residents to and from weekly Sunday afternoon services

Participates in special worship services on Birch Court (~5 per year)

Assists with memorial services or funerals (when invited to participate)

At The Moorings of Arlington Heights

Leads multi-week Bible study group in Assisted Living

Assists with monthly Service of Remembrance



May require frequent walking, climbing of stairs, kneeling, or standing for long periods to perform the duties of this job.  May be necessary to push resident in wheelchair. 

Demonstrates facility with the English language.  Uses English appropriately in both speech and writing.  Has the ability to speak clearly and loudly enough to be heard and understood in worship settings and during visitation.

Is aware of Presbyterian Homes Corporate Compliance policies including those having to do with confidentiality and security of information, and concern for the well-being of residents and patients.  Demonstrates behaviors and completes work in a manner consistent with these policies.
