Job Description

Explains office procedures to patients and modifies communication with patients based on special considerations. May perform opening and closing office procedures; manage office supply inventory; schedule inpatient/outpatient procedures; manage patient records and perform basic diagnostic and procedural coding. Obtains vital signs using manual and automatic devices and prepares patient for monitoring. Documents medical information using approved medical terminology. Can triage patients and administer medications orally, topically, or by injection. May perform CLIA-waived lab procedures; perform steps used in collecting blood and nonblood specimens and prepares samples for transportation to a reference lab. May maintain EKG equipment and calculate patient heart rate from EKG tracing and record a 12-lead EKG on patients.

Education: High School diploma or equivalent. Must have successfully completed a training program or one year of work experience in the medical field.

Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)with an approved accrediting body required.

BLS is required for any RN, LPN, PCT, Patient Transporter or other direct patient care provider. Emergency Department, Intensive Care Units, PACU, Medical Emergency Team and Anesthesia require ACLS. Pediatrics, SICU, Emergency Department and Medical Emergency Team also require PALS
