The Cath Lab RN practices in a community medical center under the general supervision of the Director of Heart and Vascular Services and the direct supervision of the Cardiac Cath Lab Supervisor; The RN works as a team member performing simple and complex diagnostic, therapeutic, and interventional invasive cardiovascular and angiographic procedures; The staff RN applies discretion and independent judgment to the provision of age-specific and developmentally appropriate quality patient care and seeks assistance as necessary; Participates in the development of standards of care, patient/family education and staff education to address the needs of this specialized patient population; Applies theoretical concepts to clinical practice and continually expands cardiovascular and interventional knowledge base and clinical skills; Meets qualifications, licensure/certifications, and competencies as defined in the unit/departmental-specific plan for Providing Care; Participates in educational activities, departmental committees, approved research projects and other health-related projects as assigned; Provides direction and guidance in the proper use, care and control of material resources; appraises quality and effectiveness of material and equipment and communicates to responsible individuals; Utilizes interpersonal skills to maximize excellence in customer service, safe patient care, and professionalism; Contributes to a work environment of caring and coop0eration among a culturally diverse workforce and patient population; He or she consistently displays behaviors that model LLUMC-Murrieta Mission and Vision statements; Performs other duties as needed or assigned.
Knowledge and Skills: Communication and writing skills; physical and emotional stamina; Able to use a computer and/or learn hospital system; Demonstrates an understanding of normal growth and development of the pediatric, adolescent and adult population and care of these patients as appropriate to unit assigned, as well as the elderly/geriatric patient population and the care of these patients as appropriate to unit assigned.
Required Education and Experience: Graduation from accredited school of nursing and possesses a current California Registered Nursing license; Recent appropriate nursing practice (within past 4 years) or completion of approved refresher course; Two years' experience working in a Cath or Angio Lab performing Diagnostic and Interventional simple and complex procedures.
Licensure, Certification, or Registration: Current ACLS card, Current BLS card; Completion of critical care course.
