Job Description

The Referral and Authorization Coordinator (RAC) is responsible for scheduling and tracking all referral appointments.  They are also responsible for obtaining any authorizations needed by insurance companies in order to facilitate referral appointments, medications, imaging, or other studies.  They are the liaison between the office and other service provider, so therefore must deliver excellent customer service to these outside entities and all patients.  The coordinator will provide general and health information to these outside entities while maintaining HIPAA regulations.  They will facilitate and communicate appointments in a timely manner to patients and outside entities, as well as follow up on consult notes and authorization requests within specific timeframe parameters.  They are also subject to perform other clerical duties as assigned by the Practice Administrator.  This position requires a neat and professional appearance. To perform all the above mentioned duties the RAC should have a warm outgoing personality, excellent phone etiquette, ability to work accurately, efficiently, to interact effectively and in a supportive manner with persons of all backgrounds. The RAC must be able to work and interact as part of a team and have skills to perform multiple tasks simultaneously. 

Education/Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Basic human anatomy, medical terminology, and general insurance knowledge preferred
 
Experience:      
At least three (3) years previous work experience as front desk receptionist or previous referral and authorization coordination experience. One (1) year in a medical office preferred. Will consider a new graduate with excellent reference from a medical office-training program.
