Job Description

Position summary:

The role of the Restorative Nursing assistant (RNA) will primarily focus on provision of restorative nursing care for residents, as ordered by the therapy staff. Depending on facility census staffing needs, the RNA may be required to provide basic nursing care including assisting residents with personal care under the supervision of a licensed nurse.

Position qualifications:

* High school graduate or GED preferred
* California Certified Nursing Assistant Certificate required
* Certificate of completion of RNA training program
* Knowledge and experience in bedside nursing
* Good physical and mental health
* Well groomed with appropriate manner and conduct
* Ability to communicate effectively on verbal and written levels
Restorative Nursing Care:

* Carry out current orders for RNA services as ordered by the physician in charge
* Carry out RNA functions designated as the responsibility of the RNA found in the interdisciplinary care plan
* Receive guidance by appropriate licensed restorative therapist (physical, occupational or speech) to learn restorative needs of individual residents
* Carry out specific tasks to maintain level of functional ability when the therapist is no longer treating the resident
* Accurately measure and record resident height and weight within 72 hours of admission
* Accurately measure and record subsequent weights (daily, weekly, monthly, unscheduled) according to physicians order throughout each residents admission
* Completion of significant weight change sheets on all applicable residents, including reporting changes to charge nurse, and submission of completed significant weight change forms to the Director of Nursing (DON), Director of Staff Development (DSD), and Dietary Supervisor
* Complete weekly RNA summary according to schedule, to include narrative progress note with details regarding progress, lack of progress, refusals, or unusual responses to treatment
* Attend monthly RNA meeting with DSD and Therapy Director to discuss resident changes including progress and lack of progress
* Report all changes in condition to charge nurse promptly
