Accountable for the operational leadership and management of Finance/Accounting, Business Office, Health Information Management, and Registration. Provides oversight and coordination for the day-to-day revenue cycle and financial operations of the District.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Plans, directs, and maintains an accounting system that properly reflects the financial position of the District. Manages institution-wide financial transactions, including revenue capture, month-end financial closings, compilation of consolidated financial statements and notes in accordance with GAAP, budgeting, cash management, compensation accounting, and analytics. Develops, implements, and monitors adherence to appropriate accounting practices, financial planning, controls, and reporting policies and practices.
Oversees daily banking and investing activities. Oversees cash controls to facilitate reconciliation of general ledger and bank accounts, and reviews daily cash flow reports in a timely manner. Ensures the effectiveness and accuracy of the cash flow reporting system.
Oversees revenue cycle processes to ensure revenue capture and revenue integrity. Researches, plans, and implements revenue cycle projects to maximize the cash flow/revenue returns to the medical center. Ensures Chargemaster codes are updated and accurate; works closely with department managers to ensure Chargemaster and billing compliance. Identifies problems with charge capture and implements reliable solutions for improvement; continually identifying opportunities to automate processes and improve revenue capture with the EMR.
Coordinates year-end audit activities between Accounting and other departments. Directs third party audits and facilitates various internal systems reviews and audits. Acts as liaison for regulatory and/or auditors to ensure the successful completion of periodic audits. Maintains favorable working relationships between outside auditors and Finance Department
Coordinates budget preparation and presentation. Reviews departmental budgets with directors/managers. Provides ongoing monitoring of performance to budget.
Oversees and manages the business office vendor (CBO) relationship to ensure SPMC performance requirements are met. Conducts periodic audits and reviews to monitor performance; follows up in a timely manner.
Analyzes complex financial data and provides information and reports regarding the institution's financial performance and the financial effect of business plans and strategies.
Ensures that timely and accurate financial information is readily available and that all reporting requirements are met. Collects and compiles financial information and statistical data from a variety of sources. Prepares reports and/or presents relevant data in a timely, accurate, and user-friendly format (sub-reports, charts, graphs, etc.) that is appropriate for the desired result.
Advises and consults with other hospital personnel. Serves as a liaison across disciplines. Participates as an active member of various committees; leads work groups, projects and committees as assigned.
Executes management tasks in an accurate and timely manner. Manages department to meet service and performance expectations. Maintains appropriate staffing levels and competency of staff. Maintains equipment and physical space. Provides effective leadership and oversight of assigned staff; leads by example and provides support, guidance, coaching and performance management when needed. Monitors and manages staff satisfaction and engagement.
Maintains professional skills and awareness of regulatory changes, compliance issues, innovations and developments, through research and training/continuing education opportunities. Ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements and federal, state and local laws. Stays abreast of trends and best practices. Maintains programs and records in good order, as required for efficient and effective operations.
Performs special projects and other related duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) OR Master’s degree in Business Administration or related field, required
- Five (5) years of progressively responsible accounting/finance experience.
- Minimum of three (3) years in a healthcare and/or managed care environment, preferred
- Progressive supervisory experience, required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Advanced accounting and auditing skills; knowledge and understanding of GAAP.
Understanding of financial ratios in the healthcare environment; ability to calculate and perform review on revenue, cost and productivity per volume statistics in relation to a clinic and hospital setting. Knowledge of cost accounting.
Proficient in the use of current technology; intermediate to advanced skill with Microsoft Excel and related products. Intermediate skills in data mining and data analysis.
Ability to cultivate effective partnerships and work in collaboration with managers, co-workers, and staff. Strong leadership presence and facilitation, delegation, and coaching skills.
Proficient in the use of current technology; including Microsoft Office products. Ability to learn and effectively use a variety of computer systems and basic office equipment.
Ability to develop effective processes and protocols and to maintain accurate documentation and records.
Ability to produce accurate, professional results and reports while meeting strict deadlines.
