Neuro Surgical

The Neuro Surgical unit in the Orthopedic and Neuroscience Hospital at Deaconess Gateway is comprised of 32 inpatient beds with a 5 bed short stay pod within the core of the unit.  Staff care for pre- and post-operative Neurosurgical patients such as those that undergo neck, back, or brain surgery.  In addition to surgical patients, the staff also care for patients with select Neurological conditions and those with head/neck/back pain.  Blood transfusions and select IV infusions are given in the unit’s short stay pod when needed.  Staff work with the specialty doctors to provide the best care possible to our patients.  Teamwork and a positive attitude are highly valued.

The Registered Nurse provides direct patient care; demonstrates the knowledge, critical thinking and judgement of and integrates the use of evidence-based outcomes for Nursing practice; supervises care delivered; coordinates plan of care; provides education for patients, families and staff, and collaborates with other disciplines.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE                    
Graduate from a nationally accredited school of professional nursing, no experience required. If graduate of non-nationally accredited school of professional nursing, then at least one year of professional nursing experience is required. BSN is preferred, or an education action plan in place.   Newly hired RNs on or after October 1, 2014 with five (5) years or less nursing experience are required to receive their BSN within five (5) years from date of hire.

Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Indiana required.
