The smaller size of the Neuro Intensive Care Unit (Neuro ICU) promotes teamwork and communication between coworkers and creates a positive, collaborative work environment. The staff works closely with neurosurgeons, neurologists, intensivists, and hospitalists to ensure the best care possible for our patients.
SUMMARY OF THE JOB
This 16-bed specialty unit provides care for ICU level neuroscience and medical patients. The patient population on the Neuro ICU unit includes cranial surgery, neuro-endovascular procedures, neuro-medical conditions, such as stroke, as well as medical conditions requiring intensive care. Deaconess Gateway Hospital has been designated as a certified Primary Stroke Center by the Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program (HFAP). This unit is the designated stroke critical care unit, and our staff is very knowledgeable about quality standards of care, which we meet and exceed at our facility. Nurses working on this unit receive training in 12-Lead EKG, BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, as well as specific education regarding care of the critical care, neurosurgical, and stroke population.
The Registered Nurse provides direct patient care; demonstrates the knowledge, critical thinking and judgement of and integrates the use of evidence-based outcomes for Nursing practice; supervises care delivered; coordinates plan of care; provides education for patients, families and staff, and collaborates with other disciplines.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduate from a nationally accredited school of professional nursing, no experience required. If graduate of non-nationally accredited school of professional nursing, then at least one year of professional nursing experience is required. BSN is preferred, or an education action plan in place. Newly hired RNs on or after October 1, 2014 with five (5) years or less nursing experience are required to receive their BSN within five (5) years from date of hire.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND CERTIFICATIONS
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Indiana required.
