This position is responsible for coordinating the Ophthalmology service line within the Perioperative department and promoting quality clinical practice. Serves as the clinical expert to assigned staff and is a strong unit leader and performs unit leadership activities as necessary to support the specific service line. Applies advanced clinical knowledge of the specialty and is required to scrub and/or circulate. Responsible for developing a core curriculum, in conjunction with the clinical educator, for the service line and oversees orientation of new staff and on-going staff education and evaluation of these programs within the service line. The position acts as a role model, resource person, and member of the management team. We are seeking nurses with perioperative experience in ophthalmology. Previous experience in dental surgical care would also be beneficial.

  • Requires current state of Indiana licensure as a Registered Nurse.
  • Requires an Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelors of Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Requires that the RN has graduated from a nursing program accredited through the ACEN or CCNE. New ASN RNs hired after January 1, 2013 will be required to complete their BSN within five (5) years from date of hire into this job.
  • Strong knowledge of area of specific Perioperative service line preferred.
  • Previous teaching/education experience and knowledge of the teaching-learning process and the principles of adult education preferred.
  • Requires attendance at a preceptor workshop within one (1) year of promotion.
  • Requires the ability to lead a work group and serve as a mentor.
  • Requires efficient organizational skills and tactful communication skills.
  • Requires great attention to detail and critical thinking skills.
