Job Description

The Emergency Department Technician (ED Tech) is a member of the patient care team that provides clerical duties and direct patient care in the Emergency Department under the direction of the Department Director, licensed nursing staff and providers.  They strive to meet the communication needs of the patient/family, departmental staff and medical staff. 


  • Graduate of an accredited MA program; enrolled in an approved nursing program, having completed the basic nursing arts required; certified nursing assistant or have completed the EMT basic course
  • Current BLS Certification
  • Medical terminology course preferred
  • Experience providing patient care in a clinic, acute care hospital or ambulance is required
  • Ideal candidates will possess 6 months of experience in an acute care hospital setting


  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence using computer information systems
  • Ability to speak effectively to patients, families and co-workers
  • Keyboarding skills
  • Ability to add, subtract, and multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
  • Ability to define problems and make decisions based on available information involving variable situations
