Job Description

VCU Health System's Rehab Med-OT department is seeking a full time Occupational Therapist to conduct evaluations on referred patients. The OT plans and implements a comprehensive treatment program that includes discharge planning, patient/family education, and recommendations for follow-up or continued care. Documents results of the OT evaluation and services provided in accordance with hospital and department guidelines. Participates as a member of a self-directed departmental team as well as a member of an interdisciplinary patient care team. Provides clinical instruction to OT and OTA students as needed. Provides training and education to department and hospital staff.

 

Responsibilities

Evaluation and treatment of patients with routine diagnoses.
Setting schedule and managing time.
Reporting in interdisciplinary rounds.
Goal setting for routine diagnoses.
Completion of routine documentation.
Interaction with the interdisciplinary team and self-directed work team.
Customer interaction.
Provides supervision for Rehab Technicians, COTA staff, volunteers, and students doing clinical rotations.
Cross-coverage to other treatment teams as needed.
Progress to OT II status within 2 years of employment.
Saturday/holiday coverage on a rotating basis, and flexibility in work hours as needed to accommodate departmental needs as applicable.

 

Qualifications
Required

Graduate of an accredited School of Occupational Therapy.

Licensed (or licensure eligible) by the Commonwealth of Virginia as an Occupational Therapist.

Current CPR Certification if required by clinic or practice area.

New graduate to up to two (2) years of work experience as an Occupational Therapist.*
*Employee is expected to progress to an Occupational Therapist Clinical II level within two (2) years of employment as an Occupational Therapist at VCUHS


Preferred

Masters or Doctoral Degree from an accredited School of Occupational Therapy.

Minimum of one (1) year of work experience as an Occupational Therapist.

Experience with Spinal Cord Injured patient population 

Previous affiliation or work experience at a similar facility.

Previous experience with evaluations and interventions (physical and psycho­social).
