Job Description

  • POSITION DESCRIPTION

    • POSITION SUMMARY
      • Perform clerical duties in an outpatient clinic and provide assistance to the nurse staff with the goal of increasing efficiency, provider productivity; and patient satisfaction. To perform uncomplicated tasks (ie…clean/ stock exam rooms, escort patient to exam room, chaperone patient exam in absence of nurse, use automated vital sign machine) under direct supervision of a work area nurse, transport stable patients within the facility, provide telephone system switchboard backup,schedule diagnostic testing, pre-authorize testing and medications; and assist patients with processing of paperwork for patient assistance programs. Work in tandem with medical records to see that referral sources receive in a timely manner records for review prior to appointments and also obtain records from outside sources before the consultative appointment.

        • Experience in Customer service

        • EHR experience
        • Windows proficiency
        • Experience working with protected health information
        • Two years medical/clinical office experience

    • KNOWLEDGE OF,  SKILLS IN, ABILITY TO, COMPLEXITY AND DIFFICULY:
      • KNOWLEDGE OF:
        • Personal computers, hardware and basic software programs including e-mail, word processing; and spreadsheets
        • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred
        • Knowledge/Understanding of the components to various insurance cards preferred
        • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures including managing files and records and other office procedures and terminology, whether in paper or electronic format
        • Use of multi-line phone system

  • ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    • 20% Time Spent - Fax/phone/mail prescriptions, forms and medical record reports
    • 20% Time Spent - Produce and manage tracking and referral reports from consultants and see that they are filed timely in the patient EMR
    • 20% Time SpentSchedule patient appointments, referrals, procedures and tests
    • 5% Time Spent - Coordinate prescription assistance program for clinic patients
    • 5% Time Spent - Make informational phone calls/callbacks to patients on direction from nurse or provider and document appropriately in the EMR
    • 5% Time Spent - Assist with vendor requests
    • 5% Time Spent - Scan medical records and sort pod faxes and mail
    • 5% Time Spent - Chaperone on request patient appointments
    • 5% Time Spent - Assist nursing with exam room preparation and rooming of patients 10% Time Spent - Perform other supervised tasks as appropriate under the supervison of the POD nurse or a Provider
