The purpose of this job is to provide hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) treatments to patients per doctor’s orders. The hyperbaric tech should recognize and notify the physician or nurse of patient problems that might arise in the course of the treatment. Safety will be maintained by adhering to guidelines set forth in the pre-hyperbaric safety checklist and UHMS guidelines. The job will also provide direct patient care to an assigned group of patients utilizing the team concept, under the direction of the Registered Nurse and/or Licensed Therapist.




  • Provide hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) treatments for patients under the guidance of the RN and supervison of the physician.
  • Delivers basic patient care under the direction of the RN or other licensed healthcare provider.
  • Operates, maintains, and ensures safety of the hyperbaric chambers and all associated systems and equipment.
  • Facilitates and maintains a safe environment for patients and others.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to identify actions to improve patient care.
  • Contributes to continuity of patient care.



Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of accrediting and regulatory agencies, such as NFPA, UHMS, and TJC.
  • Demonstrates an extensive safety and mechanical knowledge of hyperbaric chambers.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the planning and execution of professional and community education, and possesses effective problem solving and negotiation skills.
  • Presents themselves in a professional manner and works well with others.
  • Intermediate skills in use of various computer software, including word processing; spreadsheet; and Internet functions.

Education, Experience, Licensure


  • Minimum of 6 mos. hands on training at an approved hyperbaric facility. Required:
  • High school diploma or equivalent. Possess NREMT Certificate. 
  • Certified Hyperbaric Tech-required by 1 year from date of hire. 
  • Basic Life Support/CPR , Certified Hyperbaric Tech 


  • Certified Hyperbaric Tech-required by 1 year from date of hire.
