In cooperation with the Operations Directors, the Manager will function as a technical and general supervisor, maintaining involvement in the day-to-day functions of the department to ensure reliable and cost effective delivery of customer services. The standard of ethical and professional performance must be consistent with established medical laboratory practice and demonstrate the philosophy of Mid America Clinical Laboratories.
Minimal requirements must be met to fulfill the Primary Role Responsibilities. These requirements are reflected in the Experience Required and Skills Performed sections as well as the Physical Requirements and Environmental Worksheet.
Six Sigma Green Belt preferred.
Baccalaureate degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, Cytotechnology or other related laboratory health science.
Certified as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), Medical Technologist (MT), or equivalent required.
Four years of working experience as a bench technologist strongly preferred.

The following major functions describe the essential duties of this role. Individuals in this role may not perform all of these duties or may perform additional related duties not listed here.
Selects, evaluates, trains and disciplines staff.
Maintains expenses within approved budget guidelines.
Organizes, monitors and schedules personnel within the department.
Assists in development of departmental polices and procedures and ensures that all staff understands and complies with said policies and procedures.
Interacts with staff to elicit suggestions relative to customer complaint resolution and implements corrective action to ensure customer satisfaction.
Completes reports related to productivity, service levels, goals, and other topics.
May perform laboratory testing on the bench when necessary; typically not to exceed 25% of the work schedule. This will be necessary during staffing shortages or during training periods for the most part.
Establishes and maintains an orientation program for new associates assigned to the department and when new procedures are implemented.
Acts as a liaison between other laboratory and hospital departments in matters relating to operational and professional functions. Communicates with other departments throughout the company and the hospital to ensure a positive working relationship.
Assists in the review of Point of Care Quality Control and acts as a resource for Point of Care testing.
Responsible for the performance evaluation of all staff in the department.
Demonstrates excellent time management skills necessary to meet deadlines.
Complies with all company policies and practices to include HR, Corporate Compliance and Safety as a condition of employment.
Identifies problems proactively, troubleshoots their causes, and implements solutions or alternative courses of action to resolve them.
Understands and complies with all QA initiatives implemented within MACL.
Responsible for all regulatory agency requirements, e.g., FDA, CAP/CLIA, SDOH. Oversees the QC, preventive maintenance, proficiency testing and competency assessment for the department.
Participates on hospital committees and teams as requested by hospital administration to ensure laboratory involvement in all levels of hospital activities.
Establishes and maintains working relationships with hospital administration and all hospital departments.
Cooperates with the director in the completion of additional duties as assigned.
