Responsible for proper collection of blood samples from patients for clinical laboratory testing. Must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to specific age groups that are served by this position which includes; neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric populations. Performs various clerical duties including report and supplies distribution.
High School diploma or equivalent required.
Some college credits including biology or chemistry and/or successful completion of military basic medical laboratory procedure course preferred.
At least one year experience as phlebotomist or medical laboratory aide preferred.
Two years previous clinical experience as non-registered technician preferred.
Phlebotomy certification preferred.
Able to read, write and speak English.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Perform phlebotomy, including venipuncture, bleeding times, finger and heel sticks, and arterial puncture (with approval of Pathologist).
Collects blood specimens and applies blood bank bands for patients requiring blood bank testing according to collection and identification policies/procedures.
Collects, receives and distributes specimens to appropriate clinical areas.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Maintains a safe work environment and reports safety concerns appropriately.
As workload dictates, both assigned shift and work station may be changed by the supervisor.
