Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY
To directly monitor patient(s) as assigned, and to maintain safety of the patient, staff, and others in the vicinity.

  • Monitor the assigned patient(s) in accordance with the hospital.

  • Maintain diligence and continuous assessment of the environment for hazards in order to help ensure that a safe environment is maintained.

  • Utilize critical thinking and assess the therapeutic benefit of maintaining personal space while remaining an appropriate distance from the patient(s) to intervene if there are changes in the patient or environment.

  • Advise nursing staff of changes in behavior, unusual circumstances, or reasonable patient needs.

  • Exercise verbal skills to de-escalate potentially hostile patients or visitors.

  • Accurately complete the Patient Observation logs and other forms as directed while conducting direct patient monitoring.

  •  Maintain patient confidentiality at all times in accordance with policy.

  • Attend mandatory safety trainings.

  • Follow hospital exposure control plans relating to blood borne and/or airborne pathogens to maintain persona, patient, staff, and visitor safety.

  • Understands and follows the organization’s patient safety-related policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Demonstrates proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes.
  • Identifies and reports/corrects environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk.
  • Report potential or actual patient safety concerns in a timely manner per the organization’s protocol.

  •       CVMC policies specific to the job including but not limited to policies addressing: Universal precautions, Use of PPE, Safe lifting/ergonomics, Handling of hazardous  materials.         
     
     
     
     
     
  •   Notifies direct supervisor of infractions of policy, procedure, laws and regulations as they
  •       are identified.  Notifies supervisor’s manager of same if supervisor does not correct or  resolve issue within a reasonable time frame.  Notifies Corporate Compliance Officer of    any issues that continue to be unresolved.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS High school diploma or equivalent. Must obtain Pro-ACT certification within 6 months of hire. Please refer to department-specific Pay for Performance expectations.
     
    EXPERIENCE
    Prior Healthcare, Mental Health, Security, or Public Service experience preferred.
