Monitor the assigned patient(s) in accordance with the hospital.
Maintain diligence and continuous assessment of the environment for hazards in order to help ensure that a safe environment is maintained.
Utilize critical thinking and assess the therapeutic benefit of maintaining personal space while remaining an appropriate distance from the patient(s) to intervene if there are changes in the patient or environment.

Advise nursing staff of changes in behavior, unusual circumstances, or reasonable patient needs.
Exercise verbal skills to de-escalate potentially hostile patients or visitors.
Accurately complete the Patient Observation logs and other forms as directed while conducting direct patient monitoring.
Maintain patient confidentiality at all times in accordance with policy.
Attend mandatory safety trainings.
Follow hospital exposure control plans relating to blood borne and/or airborne pathogens to maintain persona, patient, staff, and visitor safety.
Demonstrate respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.

Understands and follows the organization’s patient safety-related policies, procedures, and protocols.

Notifies direct supervisor of infractions of policy, procedure, laws and regulations as they
are identified. Notifies supervisor’s manager of same if supervisor does not correct or resolve issue within a reasonable time frame. Notifies Corporate Compliance Officer of any issues that continue to be unresolved.

Prior Healthcare, Mental Health, Security, or Public Service experience preferred.
