Job Description

Job Summary:

In addition, this job also ensures the safe and appropriate use of medications through the provision of drug information, drug therapy monitoring, distributive and supervisory pharmacy services within the framework of hospital and pharmacy policy, standard practices and state / federal laws. Must meet departmental staff development requirements.

Exhibits good interpersonal skills in dealing with subordinates, peers, supervisors and others outside the department.

Exercises ability to lead, motivate, evaluate, organize, coordinate and make decisions regarding patient drug therapy and provision of related information to appropriate individuals.

Acts as liaison between pharmacy and assigned patient care area solving distribution problems and monitoring drug supplies for proper storage, etc.

Provides improved patient care through drug information, drug therapy monitoring and patient/staff education.

Supports activities that assist in achieving Palmetto Health Corporate and Departmental goals.

Ensures the provision of pharmaceutical services in assigned area, following all established procedures and standard guidelines, assuming ultimate responsibility for efficient use of medication and human resources.


Makes beneficial recommendations for improvements in procedures, guidelines and continuing education training.



Demonstrates expansion of his/her professional knowledge/technical skills and exhibits the ability to communicate this expertise to others. Participates in in-servicing new employees and continuing education for existing staff.


Education: Graduate of an ACPE accredited college of pharmacy

Experience: Prefer hospital pharmacy experience and/or ASHP accredited residency

Licensure, Registry or Certification Required: Licensed as a Pharmacist in South Carolina or eligible to become licensed in South Carolina within 3 months of hire date.

Special Training: Must have thorough knowledge of medical and pharmacy terminology; possess good mathematical, computer, and aseptic technique skills. Must have problem solving abilities; able to work in team situations; handle urgent, stressful conditions. PH and departmental mandatory training required annually.
