Protects the hospital, its assets, patients, team members and visitors. Patrols hospital and grounds to prevent fire, theft, vandalism and other crimes. Unlocks and secures hospital buildings and offices. Responds to security needs of hospital team members, physicians, patients and visitors. Interacts with patients, families and visitors ranging in age from newborn to the elderly.Education & Training: High school diploma or equivalent. Must complete 24 hours of training with a shift supervisor or senior security officer within first 30 days of employment. Must be certified by (or become certified when scheduled) the International Association of Healthcare Security and Safety (Basic Security/Safety Course). Completes required training for Aggressive Patient Management during orientation. Annually required to complete Aggressive Patient Management training.
Skills & Abilities: Ability to read, write, analyze and interpret security reports. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Must be able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral or schedule form. Must be able to work well under pressure during emergency situations. Must possess outstanding service excellence skills. Must be available 24 hours a day and work at any UM UCH location when needed. Must have a valid driver's license with an acceptable record and conviction-free criminal record. Must be able to intervene with physically aggressive individuals.
