Title:  Clinical Informaticist
 
Shift:  Full-Time, Days
 
This position will be located in the IT Department at The Christ Hospital, 2139 Auburn Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio 45219.
 
Job Overview:  Under general administrative direction, the Clinical Informaticist is responsible for the delivery of value-added health care informatics and technology which supports the strategic plan of the organization and achieves clinical, financial and service quality objectives.
 
The Clinical Informaticist may perform the following duties:  The Clinical Informaticist will manage communications and coordinate service line participation to meet organizational IT objectives. This role is accountable for the quality of informatics services delivered, coordination with IS&T application build teams across the hospital system, and it will contribute to the design and maintenance of systems to support multidisciplinary team functioning and continuity of services within The Christ Hospital Health Network.
 
The Clinical Informatics will manage small to medium projects or specific aspects of larger projects for clinical or business applications in the healthcare environment. The Clinical Informaticist will perform low risk Epic system build of key documentation and ordering tools.
 
  • Collaboration
    • Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members to assess, redesign and continually improve effectiveness and productivity of clinical programs.
    • Builds effective networks of internal and external subject matter experts.
    • Meets with stakeholders to review solutions and issues and to gain commitment on recommendations
    • Contributes to the development of testing scripts and participates in testing
    • Participates in project planning discussions. Assists in cost estimation, time frames, staffing requirements, and preparation of cost justifications for assigned projects.
    • Is visibly involved in obtaining customer feedback, incorporating customer requirements into service design and advocating for technical solutions to clinical processes.
    • Provides support and coaches stakeholders in effective process analysis and improvement techniques and in using data to assess and improve unit performance.
    • Facilitates staff discussion and response to issues which effect clinical practice and care delivery.
    • Liaison between end users and Epic implementation staff.
  • System Optimization
    • Anticipates and identifies complex clinical process and informatics issues, monitors and measures the risk factors.  Communicate risk factors to informatics leadership and stakeholders.  Manages projects to ensure the implementation of quality-controlled processes and deliverables.
    • Assists in the development of departmental policies and procedures as they relate to the use of clinical applications. Supports clinical leadership to implement infrastructure including policies and procedures that support the clinician community.
    • Ensures clinical practices and corresponding policies and procedures related to health IT follow appropriate Practice Acts, Joint Commission requirements, and other applicable regulations and standards.
    • Identifies barriers to change and accepts and manages ambiguity/complexity. Leads multidisciplinary groups toward solutions.
    • Oversees day to day tracking and follow-up on issues and questions of daily operations.
    • Problem reporting, resolution and escalation to the Epic application analyst. Collaborates with analysts for break-fix activities.
    • Participates in multiple aspects of electronic medical record development and implementation. Participates in training development and delivery, go-live/upgrades, testing activities, reporting and clinical needs prioritization for the electronic medical record.
    • At the elbow support for onboarding and new hire follow-up.
    • Effectively uses, interprets, applies and communicates data and information from multiple sources which effect medical center programs. These data sources include financial reports, clinical and service quality data, human resource data and information from the external market.  Effectively interprets changes in key indicators for staff and directs staff in applying information to changes at the unit level.
    • Supports innovation in clinical practice and care delivery systems by staying current with innovations and literature in healthcare informatics and care delivery.  Disseminates and incorporates research findings into practice. 
    • Research and performance improvement informatics services support
    • Plan, analyze, design, implement, test and maintain Epic software applications
    • Provide guidance and support to end-users to enhance the use of the EPIC system.
  • Patient Safety
    • Combines knowledge of patient care, informatics concepts, and change management to effectively address the information and knowledge needs of patients.
    • Promotes safe, effective, and efficient use of health IT. Applies human factors and ergonomics to the design of systems and devices.
    • Monitors the environment, technology, and infrastructure to support the prevention of medical errors and adverse events.
    • Promotes the use of health IT to improve patient safety by designing, developing, implementing, monitoring, and educating on clinical decision support tools.
    • Continuously collects, analyzes, and reports data in collaboration with quality on patient safety issues and outcome to leadership/risk management.
  • Professional Practice and Professional Development
    • Ensures professional practices within division follows evidence-based approach.
    • Across the organization participates in research, publishing and professional presentation and professional organization.
    • Promotes an atmosphere of lifelong learning within division and service line and holds direct report accountable for execution of that philosophy.
    • Coaches, mentors and provides guidance to both internal and external customers to support development across the profession.
    • Ensures positive experiences for students are accomplished throughout the division.

    • Shares knowledge and information with peers and throughout the division and encourages changes in practice based on research and scientific principles.
    • Appropriately represents clinicians and/or the hospital in the community.
    • Seeks out and participates in community service activities.
    • Computer skills and proficiency with basic Microsoft office tools
    • Basic Epic Hyperspace training (provided)
    • Works independently
 
Education:  Bachelor’s Degree in a health, science, or business field required.  Clinical licensure is required.
 
License & Certification:  Graduate of an approved health care related field and licensed in the state of Ohio.  Membership in professional organizations is preferred.  Certification in area of specialty is preferred and will be required within 6 months of hire as applicable
 
Experience:  2-5 years of clinical experience required.
 
Required Skills & Knowledge:  Experiencing supporting, using, and implementing clinical systems. Demonstrated knowledge of healthcare, and organizational systems and strategies.  Demonstrated knowledge and experience in performance improvement theory and application and project management.  Well-developed communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated highly effective verbal and written communication skills.  Demonstrated effectiveness as a group leader and participant. Demonstrated ability to collaborate with multiple members of the health care and administrative leadership team. Demonstrated ability to think critically, develop conceptual designs for clinical services and plans and organizes successful projects. Demonstrated basic knowledge of change management principles and teamwork. Demonstrates the ability to gather and present information to support project management and related documentation. Experience with Epic HIS system is preferred.
