· Plan, prepare and carry out individually designed programs of physical treatment to maintain, improve or restore physical functioning, alleviate pain and prevent physical dysfunction in patients.
· Perform and document an initial exam, evaluating data to identify problems and determine a diagnosis prior to intervention.
· Evaluate effects of treatment at various stages and adjust treatments to achieve maximum benefit.
· Administer manual exercises, massage or traction to help relieve pain, increase patient strength, or decrease or prevent deformity.
· Instruct patient and family in treatment procedures to be continued at home.
· Confer with the patient, medical practitioners and appropriate others to plan, implement and assess the intervention program.
· Review physician's referral and patient's medical records to help determine diagnosis and physical therapy treatment required.
· Record prognosis, treatment, response, and progress in patient's chart or enter information into computer.
· Obtain patients' consent to proposed interventions.
· Discharge patient from physical therapy when goals or projected outcomes have been attained and provide for appropriate follow-up care or referrals
· Supervise, train and assess therapy students during onsite clinical affiliations.
· Keep abreast of developments in the field by reading current literature, talking with colleagues, and participating in professional conferences.
· Prepare and deliver lectures to therapy students at area academic programs on topics in area of clinical expertise.
· Initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom discussions
· Create and implement specialized training programs.
· Ensure competency of staff in specialty areas.
· Serve as a mentor and resource to GSPP therapy staff.
· Provide leadership for departmental or individual research activities.
· Assist management with the development and coordination of new programs.
· Develop and update clinical pathways/guidelines.
· Mentors staff and ensures staff are competent in identified area via accepted competency tool.
· Assists Advanced Clinician II and/or Team Leader in development and update of competency tools.
Minimum Certifications, Registry and/or Licenses Required: CPR Certification, Pennsylvania and New Jersey physical therapist licensure or eligible. Advanced degree or eligible to sit for specialist/certification exam or equivalent in a specialty area.
Degree Requirements and Minimum Experience Required: BS or MS in physical therapy from CAPTE accredited school of physical therapy, minimum of four years clinical experience required. Must be a competent generalist and demonstrate advanced clinical skills in one or more areas of interest. Serves as departmental resource clinician for identified clinical population/s.
