Cardiovascular ICU The Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) specializes in the care of complex medical and cardiac patients who need intensive care. This includes myocardial infarctions, CHF, cardiogenic shock, post-cardiac catheters, postcodes and renal failure. This unit also cares for patients requiring Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT). This is a form of continuous dialysis done by the nurse at the bedside and the patient ratio is 1:1. The unit has 16 private rooms equipped with monitoring systems and necessary supplies. There are six dialysis rooms and two negative-airflow rooms. All beds are total-care beds with chair capabilities and the use of fluoroscopy.   SUMMARY OF THE JOB The Registered Nurse provides direct patient care; demonstrates the knowledge, critical thinking and judgement of and integrates the use of evidence-based outcomes for Nursing practice; supervises care delivered; coordinates plan of care; provides education for patients, families and staff, and collaborates with other disciplines.   EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE                      Graduate from a nationally accredited school of professional nursing, no experience required. If graduate of non-nationally accredited school of professional nursing, then at least one year of professional nursing experience is required. BSN is preferred, or an education action plan in place.   Newly hired RNs on or after October 1, 2014 with five (5) years or less nursing experience are required to receive their BSN within five (5) years from date of hire.   CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND CERTIFICATIONS Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Indiana required.    Deaconess uses the  EPIC   Medical Record System Deaconess Hospital is Magnet Recognized by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.      Magnet designation is the highest level of recognition that a health care organization can attain that provides the service of registered professional nurses.  The Magnet program promotes excellence in nursing practice.   It recognizes and supports evidence-based practice, enhancing positive outcomes for both the patient and the nurse.

We are looking for compassionate, caring people to join our great staff of health care providers .     In addition to the responsibilities of the Patient Care Technician (PCT) role, the Ortho-Uro Specialist (OUS) performs and documents specialized tasks related to traction/cast/splint application/urological care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. The decision of whether or not to delegate or assign is based upon the RN’s judgment concerning the condition of the patient, the competence of all members of the nursing team and the degree of supervision that will be required of the RN.  The OUS provides input and guidance into the care of patient populations requiring orthopedic/urological care; as well as provides the necessary patient/family/employee instruction under the direction/supervision of the Registered Nurse, Team Leader or Manager.  The OUS maintains adequate levels of unit supplies related to ortho/uro procedures in coordination with Sterile Supply. The OUS also checks and assists with the maintenance of equipment related to ortho/uro procedures, assists with new product evaluation of orthopedic/urological supplies, and successfully completes yearly OUS skills evaluation.  The OUS successfully completes the preceptor course within a year of hire and meets continuing education to maintain preceptor status.
