POSITION SUMMARY The Peri-Operative Registered Nurse is responsible for providing nursing leadership and patient care and advocacy within the inter-operative and endoscopic procedures performed within Surgical Services. This position shall ensure safe, efficient and cost effective delivery of care consistent with established AORN standards, departmental policy and nursing practice. The peri-operative nurse will perform both direct and indirect nursing care to patients not limited to the functions: OR pre-operative nursing assessments and implementing OR plans of care; circulating RN leadership and coordination of technologist; instrumentation and supply coordination; scrubbing, room turnovers and when applicable first assist duties. In addition, the Peri-Operative RN is responsible for billing and inventory depletion constantly promoting efficient cost effective use of equipment and supplies. Compliance with National Patient Safety Goals, departmental and regulatory compliance is an important aspect of performing safe, high quality patient care, while promoting overall efficiency and success of Surgical Services. Delegated additional duties and project work to ensure the successful completion of departmental goals and objective shall be expected. Finally, this position reports to the Director of Surgical Services and shall work closely with Surgeons and Anesthesia, the Medical Director of Peri-Operative Services and Patient Care Coordinators. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience: Prior operating room experience preferred. License/Certificates: Current Minnesota RN license. American Heart Association BLS certification. American Heart Association ACLS certification required within 4 months of hire. Independently performs the duties of circulating nurse including developing OR nursing care plans, accurate monitoring, positioning, prepping, bandaging, technical coordination of equipment and providing nursing leadership within the OR and/or procedure rooms. Completes timely, accurate and thorough nursing documentation including inter-operative documentation, patient health status and associated plans of care. Accurately and timely documents purchasing and procedural information for billing and depletion of materials and supplies. Performs, verifies and documents the completions of "time outs" for all procedures. Demonstrates responsibility - independently taking associated evening and weekend call, responding timely and appropriately to call/urgent and emergency cases in accordance with department protocols. Prepares sterile field including assisting in setting up by opening sterile packs, instrumentation and completing appropriate counts in accordance with departmental protocols and AORN standards (RN scrubs only). Paramedics must deal with both injury and illness and the emotional problems that result for such emergencies. Under the direction of the RN, assist with the care of patients in the Emergency Department to include the withdraw of medications from the omnicell, preparation and administration of ordered medications, application of splints and casts, assist with cleaning and debridement of wounds, application of dressings, administer EKG's, breathing treatments, airway management to include intubation, blood draws, initiation of intravenous therapy. The paramedic can perform all skills that they are qualified to perform and have a current competency to perform on file.

This includes walls, ceilings, windows, sinks, toilets, exam tables, mirrors, telephones, in all rooms, hallways, etc. Operate equipment as necessary to complete tasks. Replenish supplies (toilet paper, paper towels, cleaning supplies, etc.) as needed. Empty trash and transport to the dumpster. Follow safe work practices and utilize personal protective equipment appropraitely for all tasks. Follow all safety rules and comply with all State and Federal requirements. Maintain open communication with other departments in order to provide quality service for patients, visitors and co-workers. Demonstrate a Can-Do Spirit when other duties are assigned. Environmental Services Aide Lead: Provide day to day direction to staff in daily operations to include taking calls and redirecting staff to priority tasks. POSITION SUMMARY Registered Nurses provide direct care to patients and are a part of all care given by other departments. Registered Nurses must continually strive to provide the highest quality of care possible for the patients. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience: A minimum of 2 years prior Critical Care experience preferred. If the nurse does not have a minimum of two years of recent ICU experience, a hospital designated critical care course must be completed within six month of hire. License/Certificates: Current Minnesota RN license. Current American Heart Association BLS required. American Heart Association ACL and PALS or ENPC required within 4 months of hire. TNCC, CALS or an approved course within 1 year of hire. For Charge RN: Must have current NRP. Special Skills and Aptitudes: The critical care nurse uses the nursing process to care for the critically ill patient in a manner consistent with recognized standards of nursing care and evidenced based practice as outlined by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses and the Minnesota Board of Nursing. Specific skill expectations include: The critical care nurse collects data from the patient, collaborates with other members of the health care team, physicians, and the patient's family/significant other to conduct a thorough assessment of the patient condition. This information is used to prioritize care for the patient across the continuum of care. Patient information is documented in the medical record timely. The plan of care is communicated to other members of the team as appropriate and is revised in response to the patient condition changes.
